Tooth: To pull or not to pull?
That is the question, especially once bacteria can reach the dental pulp and cause painful infections. Common triggers for such an infection are extensive damage of the natural crown, in particular fillings close to the nerve or broken teeth. In many cases a professional root canal cleaning and filling can help preserve valuable tooth structure.
Seeing more, achieving more
We devote special attention to endodontics (root canal treatment) in our practice. For ten years Dr. Münch has been putting a strong focus on endodontics and is therefore on the cutting edge of this topic – both in theory and in practice. Most of the time a deep cavity is the cause for this treatment. If untreated, it can lead to inflammation and a severe toothache.
Medication in, bacteria out
First, all germs are eliminated and the root canal of the affected tooth is cleaned thoroughly. This will prevent further inflammation. Due to the very narrow, bent and branched anatomy, provision of dental care up to the root tip is very complex. First we anesthetize the area and put a rubber band (dental dam) around the sick tooth in order to protect the other teeth as well as the oral mucous tissue. After that we gain access to the inner tooth and clean the canals with flexible nickel titanium tools. Then we rinse the canals with tepid antibacterial hypochlorite and chlorhexamed.
Canal full, tooth saved
In preparation for the filling, the length of the root is assessed with an electronic measuring device and the cleansed tooth canal is dried. Accordingly, we then insert elastic gutta-percha with a heatable bolt and let the natural material melt right into place. This guarantees that the filling material will spread to the smallest side branches of the entire root canal. Finally, a digital X-ray image documents and checks the results.
Long and painless
Local anesthesia combined with a perfect procedure guarantee a rather painless treatment. One or two days after the procedure, some patients experience discomfort when biting. For these cases medication is available.
Help and advice
Even though the actual treatment is quite lengthy (between one and two hours) and the tooth can be preserved for many years after, health insurance only partially covers the costs incurred. Therefore, we make sure to give you a transparent cost estimate prior to the treatment. We are happy to support and consult you during your claims process.
